CHARACTER NAME: Nero
SERIES: Devil May Cry, and specific information about Nero can be found here!
CANON POINT: Post-canon
AGE: 18
APPEARANCE: Nero’s probably the shortest of the DMC protagonists thus far, sitting at around 5’10” with a toned figure in comparison to Dante’s 6’+ and tank build in 4. He shares the same white hair and blue eyes of the other Sparda descendants, but his eyes are a deeper blue compared to the ice-blue of Dante and Vergil. His face is slightly rounder than the Sons of Sparda, more likely to show his youth in comparison to Dante. Outside that, the other main distinguishing feature of his is the Devil Bringer, where his right arm has become demonic – covered in a blue and red pattern, as well as glowing in certain places. In canon, the glow has increased in strength when in the presence of strong demonic forces, therefore acting as a demon detector of sorts.

His outfit consists of a dark muscle shirt under a sleeveless, hooded red vest, which in turn is under a blue and red jacket that reaches to about his calves, blue jeans, and boots. The insignia for the Order of the Sword is sewn in red thread on both sleeves, which are also rolled up to his elbows (sometimes he rolls the sleeve down on his right arm if he doesn’t want the Devil Bringer to be exposed), and he also wears a leather bracelet and two rings on his normal left hand.

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A

PERSONALITY: Nero's never been the nicest of kids. He’s snarky, sarcastic, and has little to no respect for authority. In canon, he seems to only hold respect for a couple people, and that’s almost grudgingly, it seems (outside Kyrie, but that's another story completely).

Some would say that his confidence is closer to that of arrogance, and they wouldn’t be that far off, actually. Nero’s damn good at what he does, and he knows it. Despite the fact that he's usually insubordinate and usually regards most authority with a roll of the eyes, he gets the job done, and the kind of talent he displays was about one of the few reasons why he was still in the Order in the first place. He's usually put on solo missions because of the fact that he prefers to work alone, and the higher-ups once again didn't care as much as they probably should have because he got work done as a result. However, he doesn’t seem to care about his opponent’s words or skills, even if he’s lacking the upper hand. He just rushes into things headlong, guns blazing and usually spouts off the first thing that comes to mind, which … doesn't always work in his favor, especially when he doesn’t have the upper hand, such as when he’s trying to question Agnus and ultimately fails and ends up getting pinned to a wall by Bianco Angelos. He has his contemplative moments for sure, but they're few and far between. He's an impulsive person at heart.

He seems to get bored fairly easily, he’d rather listen to music or train rather than listen to any long, boring lectures. But if something gets his attention, expect him to be listening to everything that you say. Not that he’ll believe all of it, but it’s enough that he’ll be curious as to what you’re talking about. Take the whole beginning part of the game – he honestly only became interested in Dante's assassination of Sanctus once he noticed that Kyrie was potentially in danger from of the fight that ensued afterward as well as the fight itself had caught his attention. And even after that, it was because he was wondering just what the hell Dante meant by half the crap he said to him before (and he was a damn good fight, which is something he didn't have in a long time).

One trademark of Nero’s personality is his stubborn streak. If he sets his mind to something, then dammit, he’s going to get it done no matter what. This determination makes him a good hunter and an even better friend once he actually decides to make that jump into friendship. He will do whatever it takes to help a friend in need, rushing to their rescue even in the worst of situations. Prime example is his motivation for finding out the truth in the first half of the game – he wanted to protect Kyrie and keep her safe. He was even willing to accept the fact that he was part demon in order to save her and the fact that power might make him into even more of an outcast within the Order. But at the same time, when she mistakenly thought he was going to kill Credo and she saw his demonic arm? He was actually scared, because as much as he doesn't seem to care what others think, he still valued her feelings and opinions.

Another trademark is Nero’s temper. Despite all his experiences, he’s still a teenager. He will get mad at the drop of a hat if the subject rubs him the wrong way. Insult his friends and he’ll beat the hell out of you, it’s that simple. However, this rage tends to blind him to what’s going on a lot of the time, making him vulnerable to personal attacks. He's naturally suspicious of people, which probably leads to a reason as to why he's so wary of everything that had happened around him until things got a bit too personal.

ABILITIES: Nero is part-demon, meaning that because of this, he is somewhat faster and stronger than a normal human. This also allows him to survive what would normally be grave wounds (see when he was impaled into a wall and was still able to not only spit blood in Agnus's face, but also talk for a bit before passing out) and use weapons that most wouldn't be able to normally. In addition to the passive abilities of this, he also has a very noticeable demonic arm, known as the Devil Bringer. With it, he is able to make a projection that allows him to literally grab and throw enemies or objects further away, use it as a demonic night-light (with which he can detect demonic/supernatural things), and even use as a shield against attacks (an apparent trademark of his, he's used it as such several times throughout the game).

Now that he has gained Yamato, he now has access to his very own Devil Trigger, though it works a bit differently in comparison to Dante or Vergil's. Instead of Nero himself transforming, a powerful aura settles around him and a Devil Avatar (which looks suspiciously close to Vergil's DT form) appears, mimicking Nero's every movement, adding power to his attacks. Also when in this state, Nero's speed, power, and regenerative abilities multiply even more.

But even before awakening to these new powers, Nero was already considered a powerful warrior within the Order of the Sword, and an excellent swordsman. What they wouldn't acknowledge, however, was the fact that he was just as good with a gun as he was with a sword.

POSSESSIONS: Red Queen – a single-edged sword, customized blade with the ability to literally “rev up” and coat the blade with flammable liquid, allowing for his attacks to be powered up as a result. Nero tinkered with this sword personally, and it's said that it's nearly impossible for others to use it except for himself.

Blue Rose – Nero is the only member of the Order of the Sword who uses firearms, mostly because the Order looks down on them as being dishonorable. That didn't stop him from getting this weapon and customizing it further. It's a double-stack revolver, which fires two bullets with each pull of the trigger. Nero can also charge bullets with demonic energy from the Devil Bringer, creating more powerful shots.

Yamato - Technically the Devil Arm of Dante's brother Vergil, this katana was broken after Vergil's subsequent fall into Hell and his defeat at the hands of Mundus. It's still unknown how the Order got its hands on the weapon, but when Nero was in danger of dying at the hands of Agnus, the weapon came to him. Currently it's sitting in something along the lines of a pocket dimension (?) and only appears when Nero is in Devil Trigger, disappearing into the Devil Bringer when not in use.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:
Of course there had to be a commotion at this very moment. Nero let out an irritated sigh, turning his head slightly to glare at whatever was going on outside as if he suddenly gained x-ray vision, expression only softening as Kyrie asked him if he was okay, glancing back with a slight smirk. “It's fine. Just wondering about what's going on out there.”

From the sound of it, it wasn't anything too terrible, right? He could at the very least try to finish this conversation. Kyrie had been worried about how people were going to react wholesale to the fact that Nero wanted to suggest essentially disbanding the Order's religion. After all, it was what started the whole incident before, wasn't it? The fact that Sanctus and the old executives of the Order believed so vehemently in the past and couldn't get over their little power-trip after that bastard Agnus had discovered how to use Devil Arms to create miniature gates and try to literally unleash Hell on Earth.

His eyes narrowed slightly as he turned away from Kyrie, clenching his normal hand into a fist before he let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, noticing that she had grabbed his demonic hand, clasping it between both her hands. The fact that she did such a thing was just … more reassuring than she'd honestly ever know, and it brought a genuine smile to his face. He really couldn't help but relax around her. That was what love was, right? The fact that they both could be just themselves, no fronts, nothing to hold them back.

Though whatever was going on outside seemed to be getting closer, and his expression changed back to a slight scowl as he went for the door, though he didn't mind that Kyrie had decided to follow at this point. “You sure you want to follow?”

She nodded. “Of course.”

He couldn't help but smile again as they walked out. She trusted him to protect her if something came up, he knew that, but at the same time, he couldn't help but sometimes feel a bit insecure about it -

“Hey, kid! Was wondering where you were – was I interrupting a tender moment?”

Nero let out a huff, rolling his eyes at the man that stood in front of them. He couldn't help but smirk at the fact that all the commotion was just because of this little visit from Dante. Then again, the last time that they ended up meeting, the ensuing sparring match had gotten a bit out of hand, which only served to create more problems for the populace. “Jackass. You got the worst timing in the world, you know that? First crashing in like Batman, now this. Can't catch a break around here.” Though despite his words, his tone was casual and his grin had taken more of a good-natured tone to it - things like this were starting to get to be old hat by now.
